LAS ANOD—- Residents in Godaalo and Hol Hol districts have exchanged fire with Somaliland security forces who were protecting DNO foreign employees who where there for oil exploration.
The residents have expressed that they are against the presence of foreign firm which is conducting oil search and extraction. No casualties were reported as far as the exchange fire is concerned. Reports further indicate that foreign employees have left from the area after being escorted by Somaliland security forces. Once local media contacted Sool’s regional governor Mr. Yasin has responded that he is in Hargeisa. Puntland Minister for interior has just a couple of days ago spoke of Somaliland which is conducting oil search in Hol Hol which lies in Hudun.
The minister has strongly said that if Somaliland should not stop its oil search in these areas then they will deploy forces that will deter its activities in Hol Hol. Somaliland signed oil exploration deals with the likes of Genel Energy and DNO. Somaliland is a broke away state from Somalia in 1991 but it has not recognized by a single country in the world. It has escaped much of the chaos and mayhem that the South Somalia plunged after the collapse of Somalia’s central government. On the other hand, the leader of Khatumo, Ali Khalif Galeyr in holding a press conference in Mogadishu has warned oil exploration firms in Sool region.
