Somalia\u2019s health minister, Fowzia Abikar, said on Monday that she has proposed to the central government to enforce another lockdown across the country in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n
The minister has said that the first outbreak of the pandemic was handled thanks to the lockdown and shutdown of all schools and universities.<\/p>\n
She said that she submitted and advised these same restrictions and measures.<\/p>\n
Ms. Fowzia urged that since the country is in a dire situation that Somalis must adhere to health protocols to contain the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n
She has also appealed parents to stop sending their children to school.<\/p>\n
Somalia barred all int\u2019l and local flights last year once it recorded its first cases of the pandemic.<\/p>\n
It also closed all learning institutions to put in place stringent measures against curbing the Coronavirus.<\/p>\n
The government said that the second wave of the virus is spreading fast across the country and immediate precautions needed to put in place.<\/p>\n
The country recorded 266 new cases Friday out of a sample of 1807. Somalia is part of the COVAX programme and is expected to receive the COVID19 vaccines soon.<\/p>\n
